Genres: Short Stories, Crime Fiction
Published: 26th May, 2018 (expected)

Series: N/A

Mercie Hillbrook lives a simple, quiet life working as a gas station attendant. Then her parents are killed. Her home is taken. The people responsible are excused for just doing their job. When an attempt to get justice her way lands her in trouble with the law, Mercie realizes she still has something to lose: her own life.
Then she finds reason to believe her parents were murdered… and she doesn’t care anymore.

Victims or perpetrators? Hard to tell sometimes. One wrong decision is all we need to turn even the most innocents of us down the path of crime. This is exactly what happens to our Merci, a nice enough lady who goes on a rampage after police ends up killing her parents during a simple traffic stop. She’s quite intense in her rage, but it’s impossible to not feel for her.

All stories are exploring slightly different scenarios, but there’s one thing they have in common: brutality. Explicit and often senseless violence, the pages are dripping in blood for good measure.

With quick to read stories this collection is perfect for crime fans in need of a short break, and those of us noir craving mood readers with commitment issues.

Who is Chris Roy?

Chris Roy was raised in South Mississippi, in the midst of ugly Gulf Coast beaches and spectacular muddy bayous.

Chris lived comfortably with the criminal ventures of his youth until a fistfight in 1999 ended tragically. Since January, 2000, he’s been serving a life sentence in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Nowadays he lives his life  crime vicariously, through the edgy, fast-paced stories he pens, hoping to entertain readers. When he isn’t writing, he’s reading, drawing or looking for prospects to train in boxing.

  1. I have never been surprised like this by an author’s bio. Its sad what happened to Chris and his friend.

I’d like to read this one. I can see how crimes like that can occur. One event being the switch in someone’s life. There is a 20yr girl in my country who is serving a life sentence for stabbing her boyfriend 22 times during a fight. I heard her testimony about how murder was never something that she thought ever about and she still can’t believe that she did that. She seems so broken by it. Its just sad how things can happen like that. Sort of sounds like Chris’ case might have been like that too.

Adding this to my TBR. Great review, Norrie.

    1. Right? I don’t think most people set out to be murderers.
I watched a documentary series, i think on netflix about all these people in prison who were either innocent, or could have gotten a lesser sentence if they had a more competent lawyer, or more luck. I think a lot of cases are not black & white and could go wrong pretty quickly in court.

      1. I have been reading a bit about Chris and it seems like that happened with his trial/lawyer. Things can easily go wrong and a person’s life gets completely changed by that. I like the premise of Her Name is Mercie though.
