Monthly Catch Up #4 – April 2019

How’s it going, guys?

I have returned from the Land of the Huns, and I must say, my holiday went better than expected. The weather ended up being somewhat shitty though, and I came to the realization that having a weather app that gets the forecast right is rather like a unicorn. You see, when I’m in London, I can rely on the thing. If it say it will rain at 1 pm, you bet it will start raining then. The weather in Hungary however seems to be more of a rebel with a fuck-you-guys attitude, because nothing the forecast showed was even remotely similar to what was actually happening.

The family visit was quite all right. I mean, I was rolling my eyes on the inside, but at least it wasn’t visible. I realized by now that while my therapist is right, and talking about how we feel in certain situations is indeed a good strategy in general, but there are situations when it’s just simply not worth getting into it. So you know, just smile and nod…

It was fun to see my friends too after three years. #hearthands

While there is a serious lack of things to do in my tiny town, we did take walks by the river, and also had the best steak in quite a while. Seriously though… If you guys ever find yourself in Baja, in the south of Hungary, you need to check out Borbistro.

I’m still wondering where I know the waiter from, which, according to my other half, just proves that my hometown is basically a village. Running into people I know every five minutes did not help my case when I insisted that in fact, strictly speaking, it is a city.

We only ended up spending two days in Budapest. I haven’t been there for seven years, and I must say, it’s way better than it used to be.

I read an eclectic selection of books in April. Some surprisingly good, some quite meh.

Dead Stop was seriously awesome, and has the best dog character ever, while Never Let Me Go was kind of a depressing sort of nonsense I ended up reading after a colleague of mine told me he couldn’t get past the first chapter, and the book is still under his bed where he threw it months ago.

As I did in the past couple of months, I think I will limit the number of posts to around two a week. It wasn’t actually a conscious decision, it just happened, but seemed to work just fine with my schedule and all the other things I wanted to spend my time on.

I’m doing a serious CSI marathon, and I’m really into it. I used to watch it on telly back in the day, but I think I must have missed some episodes even then, so it’s nice to see them in order. I’m currently on the third season.
