Inside the Folds of the Blankie – The Book Blogger Insider Tag

Well, hello there!

If you guys spent at least five minutes with me under the blankie here, you know how much I love answering questions. So, thanks to Lashaan, we are looking at another round of Q&A, and I’m all kinds of excited.

So, let’s proceed, shall we?

Where do you typically write your blog posts?

Wherever the inspiration strikes. There was precedent of me furiously typing a draft post while walking down the stairs in the office.

Most posts were however born in the lil’ messy corner of the living room where my battle station is set up.

How long does it generally take you to write a book review?

Anywhere between half an hour and five months.

When did you start your book blog?

Ever since I had my first blog in 2004, I always mentioned books every now and then. Reading Under the Blankie however was born on a cold and snowy day on the 27th December, 2017. I didn’t make it public until January 2018 though.

What is the worst thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

I don’t know?! Nothing?! In my opinion.impolitenaughtyarachnid-small

What is the best thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

Other than getting to know like minded bookworms who love to waffle about books as much as I do? Probably the constant discovery of new books to read. Even if I’m doomed, it’s still cool.

What blog post have you had the most fun writing so far?

Well, I didn’t particularly suffer during the creation of any of my posts, but I absolutely loved writing I Don’t Like Books, and Here’s Why…

What is your favourite type of blog post to write?

I must admit, I do love a good list, and also take great pleasure in writing snarky reviews.  Who would have thought?

When do you typically write?

Whenever I have time and don’t feel brain dead. Sometimes this means 5 am, sometimes it’s in the evening. I don’t have a pattern.

Do you review every book you read?

Oh, hell, no! I value my mental sanity.fuckingnot2.gif

How do you write your book reviews? With a cup of coffee or tea? With Netflix? Cuddled with your fur baby?

As if! Fur baby doesn’t cuddle. He’s sort of insane though, so I usually have to use one arm to deflect his frantic slaps while trying to write.

I drink coffee almost constantly when I’m at home, and am usually enveloped in a massive cloud of smoke (you know those movies, 1920’s gangsters playing poker in a smoke filled room and you can’t see fuck all?) because I also never stop vaping.bisca-clandenstina-gangster-backstage-02-postproduzione

Netflix or Youtube is also on in the background for good measure.

How I get anything done with so much distraction, is a fucking mystery.

When do you write your book reviews? Right after finishing the books? Two weeks after finishing the book?

There are rumours that some of my reviews were written a few months after I finished the book. I can neither confirm, nor deny these allegations. Some reviews were written on the day I finished the books. Others were not.

How often do you post?

I want to say at least twice a week, but then again, on a good day I write a good handful of posts and schedule them for a later day, and then not write anything for two weeks. So how often that is, really?5

I wonder if Alexandra, Morgana, Kathy and Janel wants to give this interrogation a go. You may have already done it, guys, I’m just oblivious.

  1. “Anywhere between half an hour and five months.” – this is so true for me too with blog posts. I’m glad I’m not the only one!!

  2. I’m so stupid. When I read the first question, the answer that instantly popped up in my brain is “In My Blog. Where else should I write my blog posts” And then I read your answers and I was like “Oh right, the place where I physically write”. 😊😂 I really can be plain stupid sometimes.😂😂

By the way, you vape. I haven’t tried vaping but I used to smoke in my rebellious teenage years. Hehe. I was born in a devout Christian family in a Very Christian country so a girl who smokes is a big no. But well, like I said, I was rebellious. 😂

    1. Ha! That’s actually a legit point! I always write the posts in wordpress, but i know some people write in notepad / google doc first, so yea, you can answer it like that too 🙂

I smoked on an off for years. Usually just quit and haven’t smoked anything for years, but now i found vaping and it’s just so nice 😀

  3. This post was a joy to read! Your sense of humor is delightful and engaging, even for a cynical prick like myself. I hope your cat doesn’t bludgeon you too badly – I’m assuming your fur baby is a cat, and any other animal that slaps (e.g. bears, sea lions, orangutans, etc.) – and that you don’t do any more blogging while walking down the stairs.

Also, since you mentioned the delectable nectar that is coffee, what’s your favorite way to prepare coffee? French press, Moka pot/cafetera, espresso, Irish, etc.?

    1. Haha, yes, fur baby is a cat (tho kinda bear size… he’s 8 kg). 😀 While others refer to him as fat, he really isn’t that bad. He’s just quite tall 😀

Well, for coffee… there is my favourite way of having it, which is espresso, with steamed milk, and there’s my preferred way of making it which is (out of laziness of all things) is having flavoured instant coffee 😀 Just finished the toffee one, not sure what else i still have, but could drink it all day. Which i kinda do… 😀

      1. Well I’m glad your cat isn’t a real bear, since I imagine being slapped by a bear would be mildly fatal. You keep telling him he’s just tall, because we don’t want him to develop self-confidence issues! 😀

Oh no! Instant coffee?! That’s supposed to be reserved for occasions in which instant coffee is the ONLY way to get caffeine, such as when one is camping and neglects to bring their portable brewing equipment (a serious error). Why don’t you get a really big French press and make one ginormous pot of coffee in the morning, which you then transfer into a thermos to keep warm? Also, I’m not judging, I’m just genuinely concerned for your welfare.

        1. I know! I’m terrible savage 😀
I actually got a french press (but you know, someone has to wash it and then there’s coffee everywhere), have a drip thingie, an espresso maker and a nespresso machine. 😀 I may investigate flavoured coffee i can use in these things tho. That would be nice.

          1. Well, you have a point with all the cleaning that accompanies French presses and other forms of coffee prep. Fortunately coffee grounds can be composted, if your city offers composting services, because they’re just fragmented berry pits.

  4. Well, once I got passed staring at the yeti with an axe, who I wasn’t sure was going to get me … I read your answers and, of course, laughed. FIVE MONTHS? Holy shit, Norrie, even I don’t take that long and I ruminate with the best of ’em! 😉

    1. Haha, i wanted to use that yeti for ages 😀 Got a whole pack of these cute illustrations but usually they don’t fit anywhere.

I know, 5 months… kinda embarrassing. I think it’s in direct correlation to my swiss cheese-like memory 😀

      1. You have some of the best gifs I’ve seen on a blog. I love ’em! Where do you get them? My blog seems so bland compared to other bloggers.

Yeah, even I wouldn’t go 5 months. *snark* but I have written a post and then, lost it. No, I mean it, literally. I couldn’t find where I filed it. So I know only too well about swiss cheese brain. 😉

        1. The gifs i just find online. Usually google my favourite tv shows and hope for the best 😀
The black & white illustrations i got from Hungry Jpeg, and the Yeti from Etsy ❤

Oh noes, completely lost it? Aw. 😦

  5. “Between half an hour and five months.” Sounds about right. Except I think I’ve pushed the boundaries to seven months on some books. What can I say? After spending the first 35 years of my life being an overachiever, I’ve decided being an underachiever suits better. 😉

Love your answers to all of these. I bet you’re brilliant at Twitter. Naturally witty!

  6. Another fun tag to read, Norrie. Your posts leave me with such an impression, I would have said you post more often than twice a week. You keep me entertained, and I love your witty candor. I’m imagining your fur baby slapping you while you type! 😂 ♥️

  7. Oh my god “anywhere between half an hour and five months” 😂 this is way too relatable 😂😂 and… how do you write while walking down the stairs? I would fall down in a second haha I admire your multi-tasking skills so much! Wonderful answers for this tag, I had so much fun reading this 😀

  8. Hahahaha I love your answers. Although I’m quite guilty for reviewing all my books on Goodreads because I’m that kind of person who wants to record everything I thought about the book not long after I finish it. However I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that I don’t always write the reviews right after I finish them! 😀

  9. I originally started blogging telling myself I was going to review every book I read but yeah that would drive me crazy. Sometimes you just got nothing 🙂 Always enjoy reading your posts!

  10. “Anywhere between half an hour and five months” Oh look! Are we talking about me responding to texts? Haha! But in all seriousness, I absolutely relate to that statement when writing blog posts!

Also, your blog has only been around for about a year!? Norrie, you are a queen! I love you, your posts, and your blog so much, and hope you continue to share the most amazing content! ❤️

I totes forgot about my blogiversary, but yes, just reached one year recently.

I don't get many texts, thankfully, so i don't have to feel bad about forgetting them, hehe 😀

    1. I struggled with vaping in the beginning. It was like, i had a ciggie, and then vaped a bit after. Once i found my favourite flavours and a good device with massive clouds, i was totally sold on it 🙂

  13. Pfew I am so relieved that I am not the only one type-walking my posts! Today’s Top 5 Tuesday was created on my phone while I was standing for one hour in the train (because of snow many trains had been cancelled and we didn’t have a seated place).
