What’s On My Bookshelf? Mess, That’s What…

I love colour coordinated bookshelves, adorned with knick-knacks and all kind of cool stuff. Mine are nothing like that. Books are organized mostly by genre, sometimes colours, and one of my shelves holds a plushy that is basically a piece of poo.

Anyway, Morgana tagged me to reveal what else I have on my shelves, apart from the poo thing of course, so here we are.

A library book

Shocking revelation… I haven’t set foot in a library for 15 years. *gasp*

A book I got as a gift

Two years ago my friend gave me 27 by William Diehl. I don’t often read historical fiction, but this was a pretty enjoyable story about Nazis and spies and all that jazz.

A childhood book

When I was a kid, I borrowed The Peacock King from the library at least once every other month for almost a year. I loved the stories and the beautiful illustration. After years of searching, I finally tracked down a copy not so long ago. It’s still pretty.

Illustrations in The Peacock King are by Albin Brunovsky

A magical book

Curse workers, lucky charms, missing memories. White Cat by Holly Black is my sort of magical.

A romantic book

Perhaps even more shocking than the fact that I don’t have any books from the library is the fact that I do own a romantic book. I think it’s more funny than romantic, but I actually quite enjoyed Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes, which is a story about this twenty-something woman called Rose who never in her life “did more with a man“, but has random visions that help solve murders and other mysteries.

A steamy book

The only steam I ever have in my books is the punk kind. Boneshaker by Cherie Priest is quite an entertaining steampunk story, but it didn’t knock my socks off. Gorgeous cover though.

An old book

Carrie by Stephen King was published in 1974. It’s not new for sure.

A book that made me laugh

The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi. Dude is such a wiseass. I enjoy his humour a lot. For this the book police is onto me however, because apparently on account of being a woman, I’m not supposed to enjoy this book, or like the character Kiva Lagos. I thought she was hilarious.

A book that made me emotional

Books usually don’t make me emotional, but the beginning of Red Rising was pretty intense, even for me.

A book I wish had illustrations

The Winternight Trilogy. Please & thank you.

A book or genre I love to read when it’s raining

There’s nothing like a good mystery thriller on a rainy day. Looking for some inspiration? Check out some books I enjoyed recently from this genre.

The famous poo

So, let’s see what Vera, Diana, Bookstooge, Avery & Jennifer has on their shelves.

  1. Ahh, good old Domo poop-kun! Thankfully, Mrs B has never felt the need to own this particular kind of plushy.

I like this post. I might end up doing it in January with actual photos. *thumbs up*

  2. Ha! There is still hope for you, you do have a romantic side ;-). I love the cover of White Cat, although I don’t think it’s my genre exactly. Six Stories is an excellent recommendation, so happy to see you loved that one as much as I did! Lovely post!

    1. I do, i think! Even tho it’s more along the funny lines 😀

White Cat is kinda urban fantasy, but they don’t have vampires and weird creatures, just normal people and some of them can do magical stuff. I still need to read the 3rd book tho…

  4. Lovely answers for this tag! ❤ I am so curious about See All The Stars, I'm happy you enjoyed it! I've seen some mixed reviews all around, so I'm a little nervous to get to it though :/

  5. LOL at the poo. How jolly!
Libraries need to keep up their visitor numbers and borrowing stats, which could make the difference when councils look at cutting services.
Sorry, that came out a bit fierce 😀
I can understand why many people don’t use their library though, and indeed many don’t have access.

  6. Haha, love your answers, Norrie! I honestly haven’t been to a library in a little while either (a few months, so not quite 15 years … lol), but since my house is always so chaotic with my siblings, it’s a nice place to get some studying done. And I love your poo pillow! 😅

    1. Oh, that does sound kinda cool! Back in my home town the only library is in an old synagogue, so it was always pretty dark and kinda haunted looking in there. Over here, not sure, but they are rebuilding it and supposed to be all about windows, so i might check it out, just for the peace & quiet 😀

  7. That is a great edition of Carrie! And I love the little poo plush 🙂 My shelves are a mess anyway. I’d love to do a rainbow but I don’t have enough books and mostly I don’t have the patience.

    1. I tried a rainbow too… but i have too many books that are just too colorful by themselves… (first world book problems, lol) 😀 I do have a blue, a black and a red shelf tho, so i’m good.

  8. Aw, I love your story about The Peacock King book. Now you make me feel like I should read it even if its a childhood book. Your answer about steamy books had me chuckling. Fun tag, Norrie 😀

  9. * gasp * You have a shit pillow? * insert Wayne´s World “we´re not worthy” move * I´ve heard good things about the Peacock King but never read it myself. You also must know that I went stock still when I saw the Twenty Eight And A Half Wishes book. Definitely going to check that one out. ❤ Looks like a real fun read. And Carrie…. * sigh * Another King favorite of mine. You know, I´ve wondered for so long what story Carrie would be like if it were a YA read. Maybe that´s not a can or worms we should open. Lol. Red Rising IS intense! Good Laawd. But oh so good. Loved this post! ❤

    1. Oh, the Peacock King! You should read it if you can. It’s pretty intense story-wise too 😀
28 and half wishes is cute-ish and funny 😀
Carrie as YA… omg. There would be soooo much drama! I prolly wouldn’t want to read that.

  10. White Cat is one of my favourite books. I would love Cassel to plot some mischievous adventures with Kaz from Six of Crows. Those two are my favourite tricksters. 🙂
I love your famous pillow by the way. 🙂 And happy to play along, thanks Norrie, thanks. 🙂
PS. Does dust count as well?

    1. I defo need to read Six of Crows, and soon… I really liked Cassel too, so if those characters are anything like him, it will be nice 🙂

Dust, sure. Also pet hair. I have a drawer full of cat hair 😀 Dunno what kitty was doing…

  11. OKAY WAIT you’ve read the Rose Gardner book?! I’ve read everything (although I think I am done after Hell in a Handbasket). I love those books.

Also I hadn’t been in a library for years either until last month. Now I am living my best life checking out ebooks of the PLL series
