What’s On My Bookshelf? Mess, That’s What…

I love colour coordinated bookshelves, adorned with knick-knacks and all kind of cool stuff. Mine are nothing like that. Books are organized mostly by genre, sometimes colours, and one of my shelves holds a plushy that is basically a piece of poo.

Anyway, Morgana tagged me to reveal what else I have on my shelves, apart from the poo thing of course, so here we are.

A library book

Shocking revelation… I haven’t set foot in a library for 15 years. *gasp*

A book I got as a gift

Two years ago my friend gave me 27 by William Diehl. I don’t often read historical fiction, but this was a pretty enjoyable story about Nazis and spies and all that jazz.

A childhood book

When I was a kid, I borrowed The Peacock King from the library at least once every other month for almost a year. I loved the stories and the beautiful illustration. After years of searching, I finally tracked down a copy not so long ago. It’s still pretty.

A magical book

Curse workers, lucky charms, missing memories. White Cat by Holly Black is my sort of magical.

A romantic book

Perhaps even more shocking than the fact that I don’t have any books from the library is the fact that I do own a romantic book. I think it’s more funny than romantic, but I actually quite enjoyed Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes, which is a story about this twenty-something woman called Rose who never in her life “did more with a man“, but has random visions that help solve murders and other mysteries.

A steamy book

The only steam I ever have in my books is the punk kind. Boneshaker by Cherie Priest is quite an entertaining steampunk story, but it didn’t knock my socks off. Gorgeous cover though.

An old book

Carrie by Stephen King was published in 1974. It’s not new for sure.

A book that made me laugh

The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi. Dude is such a wiseass. I enjoy his humour a lot. For this the book police is onto me however, because apparently on account of being a woman, I’m not supposed to enjoy this book, or like the character Kiva Lagos. I thought she was hilarious.

A book that made me emotional

Books usually don’t make me emotional, but the beginning of Red Rising was pretty intense, even for me.
