Winter’s coming.Gloomy darkness, howling wind, rain, leaves turning into mush. That’s what November was all about on the surface.
It was Sci-Fi Month too, which was just the nudge I needed to turn my attention back to one of my favourite, but alas neglected genre. I’ve been reading so many psychological thrillers lately that even my therapist told me to calm my tits, so this was a welcome distraction.
It was also the month I finally caved and admitted I need to get glasses. After the Crow Incident it was kind of inevitable. My handler at the optician was brilliant. I was in full swing explaining to her why I look terrible in glasses, and how I spent hours upon hours a few months ago, trying on the whole shop only to hate everything, when she grabbed a pair and shoved it on my face. I didn’t hate it. Sorcery, I’m telling ya. So, yay! I can see again!
It’s no secret that one of my favourite book this year was Beartown. Us Against You, the sequel I finished yesterday was just as awesome. I finally read my first Kay Scarpetta book as well, and despite it being old school, it was thoroughly enjoyable.
The Golden Orphans by Gary Raymond
A literary thriller with Russian mafia on Cyprus.
The Babysitter by Sheryl Browne
A mildly entertaining thriller full of adverbs.
Literature by Guillermo Stitch
A trippy little novella.
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
An anxiety inducing race through the multiverse.
The Last by Hanna Jameson
Post apocalyptic boredom in a Swiss forest.
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
A fast paced sci-fi thriller, written in an unusual format.

Ooops, I Dropped My Blankie In Some Dark Matter
Written by the man who wrote one of my favourite crime series, The Killing, The Chestnut Man by SΓΈren Sveistrup is not a book I could ever say no to.
The police make a terrible discovery in a suburb of Copenhagen. A young woman has been killed and dumped at a playground. One of her hands has been cut off, and above her hangs a small doll made of chestnuts.
Young detective Naia Thulin is assigned the case. Her partner is Mark Hess, a burned-out investigator who’s just been kicked out of Europol’s headquarters in The Hague. They soon discover a mysterious piece of evidence on the chestnut man – evidence connecting it to a girl who went missing a year earlier and is presumed dead, the daughter of politician Rosa Hartung. A man confessed to her murder, and the case is long since solved.
Soon afterwards, another woman is found murdered, along with another chestnut man. Thulin and Hess suspect that there’s a connection between the Hartung case, the murdered women and a killer who is spreading fear throughout the country. But what is it?
Thulin and Hess are racing against the clock, because it’s clear that the murderer is on a mission that is far from over . . .
Christmas month is upon us, and brings with it my long awaited week-long holiday. I’m not actually going anywhere, but can’t wait to not to have to go in to the office and just chill at home.
I started watching Maniac on Netflix, and it’s looking pretty good.
It’s my besties’ birthday this weekend, and we are going to have some cocktails and dirty burgers. I loveΒ carbs.
In two weeks I’m going for a spa weekend to Ashdown Park. Doesn’t it just look like something out of a Gothic thriller? Well, let’s just hope I won’t get murdered.
I look forward to seeing what you guys are up to!
I remember your crow incident: D You look really cute in your glasses. The design is great.
Glad that you enjoyed Us Against You. I loved it, not as much as Beartown but it was still so good. Enjoy your upcoming break and your bestieβs birthday. Have a wonderful December.

Have an awesome December too Diana π

I relate to the glasses-thing in an entirely different way, haha. I had the same glasses for.. six years? Then I simply had to get new ones because I’d lost tons of weight and my face just.. didn’t fit with those glasses anymore. I got mad NUMEROUS times while browsing stores to find glasses I liked..
Oh, on top of that I recently ordered a new pair online because I felt like having an extra and then my boyfriend went all “those are ugly” without having seen me with them yet. They arrived at my mom’s yesterday so I’ll be trying them out today. Let’s just hope he changes his mind or his view of me will be.. ruined? I guess? :’)
Ashdown Park looks a-ma-zing but not like a building I’d like to walk around in after dark, haha. Let’s hope it’s not haunted? Or maybe a murderer is hiding out. Or there are secret rooms where they do forbidden things?! I could use a spa weekend as well but that’ll have to wait for a while longer. π So enjoy it even more in my stead! I’ll live through you!

Oh, i hope the new glasses will fit nicely π Whenever my BF makes comments regarding my clothes/accessories he doesn’t like i just tell him “well, good thing you don’t have to wear them”. π
Secret room, yess! I bet it does have at least one π
I feel like i might miss out on a few things as well cuz my physiotherapist told me i can’t get thai massage or anything along those lines cuz it would irritate my backpain and i should go for aromatherapy, which i don’t really like. So just gonna chill in the pool most likely π

Hahah. I tried that with the glasses but he literally went “no, but I have to LOOK at them more than you do” and… well.. it’s not like he doesn’t have a point there but still. :’)
Awh, that sucks. Any massages wouldn’t be possible for me either since I can’t really lie on my.. baby.. like.. Every time I accidentally do so while reading, he starts wreaking havoc like no tomorrow so it wouldn’t be relaxing in the slightest, haha.
Aromatherapy wouldn’t really be my thing either. Foot massage, now THAT I could use. And yes to pool. And bubble bath / Jacuzzi. As long as you’re able to relax, all is good. π

I binge read psychological thrillers like there’s no tomorrow hahaha but this month was all about fantasy. I wear glasses too so I understand the nervousness of picking the RIGHT pair.

There’s just something about psycho thrillers that i like a lot, even tho i’ve read quite a few similar ones this year.

You are looking so pretty in glasses βΊοΈ And seems like you had a good month overall. Beartown is on my TBR for so long. I really hope to read it soon.
Seeing everyone talking about winter and Christmas makes me so jealous. I love seeing all the pics that people share. We donβt celebrate Christmas here but somehow I love that festival π The best thing is getting long holidays π

The crow incident? Now there’s a title to a good international espionage thriller… starring, Norrie in Moscow! What, no, it was just a lark? Dang! But hey, at least you look neat in glasses. I just look nerdy, as if I could look any more geeky. But this mad scientist is groaning, my book list is straining under the weight of all this excellent titles everyone keeps talking about. I so have to take December off to read!

Haha, a secret agent who hates being cold is sent to Moscow. I’d read that π
There’s nothing wrong with nerdy look! Actually my boss told me “with your glasses on, if i told any client you are our research scientist, everyone would believe me”. So, yeah π

So there you go, write a short story featuring yourself, in Moscow … on assignment for MI6. I hear M calling you.
Meanwhile, in the real world … a boss who gives compliments.

I was told last month that I will be needing glasses soon for seeing at a distance, and I feel your struggle in this post because I also went through a lot of the shop thinking HOW COME SO MANY BOOKISH PEOPLE WITH GLASSES LOOK ADORABLE AND I LOOK LIKE AN UGLY DUCKLING, LOL. I have yet to buy a pair. Think I need to steal the lady who found yours! π

I'll work between xmas and NY as well. Mainly cuz we can usually finish early, and there's not that much to do, so i'd rather be off when it's the crazy period – which is the month before xmas pretty much.
I'll be working from home too!
