Ooops, I Dropped My Blankie In Some Dark Matter

#SciFiMonth (a.k.a. November, for the not scientifically inclined) kicked off yesterday, and we are in for a month of intergalactic war, parallel universes, alien invasions, space travel aboard a deadly virus infected spaceship, and other delightful stuff.

In case you live in a black hole, and haven’t heard of Sci-Fi Month, it’s an annual blogstravaganza that will run for the whole month. For more data on the subject teleport over to our hosts, Lisa and Imryl.

To ensure a smooth take off, I grabbed Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, and oh boy, what ride it is! Bloody stressful, that’s what. Love it though.

‘Are you happy in your life?’

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious.

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.
Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined – one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

I don’t usually decide in advance what I’m going to read, but I do have a few (and by that I mean, at least thirty…) sci-fi books lying around, unread, but not forgotten, and this event is just the right kick in the butt to get on with them.
