Pink As The Bing On Your Cherry – Book Haul #7

I promise it was not a deliberate attempt to pink up my shelves, but somehow I managed to end up with great many bubblegum colored books last month. One one hand, walking around with reading materials in the hues of strawberry sorbet or raspberry milkshake might damage my one’s reputation of being a badass, but on the other hand, nothing says “I don’t give a fuck” louder than rocking up anywhere wearing your signature black outfit, clutching a barbie-pink book. Just maintain eye contact until they fold.

I’d be lying if I said some of these were not impulse buys brought on by the eye-candy effect. I’m looking at you, Finch! The Amanda Robson book? That looks like bloody mango ice cream with blackberries! I’m not one to able to resist that shit either…

So, are you ready? Behold these beauties…

The Room By the Lake by Emma Dibdin

When Caitlin moved from London to New York, she thought she had left her problems behind: her alcoholic father, her dead mother, the pressure to succeed. But now, down to her last dollar in a foreign city, she is desperately lonely. And then she meets Jake. Handsome, smart, slightly-damaged Jake. He lives off-grid, in a lakeside commune whose members practice regular exercise and frequent group therapy. Before long, Caitlin has settled into her idyllic new home. It looks like she has found the fresh start she longed for. But as the commune tightens its grip on her freedom and her sanity, Caitlin realises too late that she might become lost forever.

Finch by Jeff VanderMeer

In Finch, mysterious underground inhabitants known as the gray caps have reconquered the failed fantasy state Ambergris and put it under martial law. They have disbanded House Hoegbotton and are controlling the human inhabitants with strange addictive drugs, internment in camps, and random acts of terror. The rebel resistance is scattered, and the gray caps are using human labor to build two strange towers. Against this backdrop, John Finch, who lives alone with a cat and a lizard, must solve an impossible double murder for his gray cap masters while trying to make contact with the rebels. Nothing is as it seems as Finch and his disintegrating partner Wyte negotiate their way through a landscape of spies, rebels, and deception. Trapped by his job and the city, Finch is about to come face to face with a series of mysteries that will change him and Ambergris forever.

She’s just blowing off steam, but other girls respond. Pretty soon Viv is forging friendships with other young women across the divides of cliques and popularity rankings, and she realizes that what she has started is nothing short of a girl revolution.

‘Cuz they know Speculoos is my favourite biscuit and I’m also just a little marshmallow on the inside…

What do you think? Pink books are yey or ney? Have you read any of these? Loved them or hated them?

  1. I love pink. 🙂 Somehow this colour makes me really happy. 🙂
I haven’t read any of these books but appreciate both their covers and premise. I could totally see myself reading any of those books tbh. 🙂 Burn for Burn sounds like a perfect ‘escapism’ for me, I think I will check it out. 🙂
    Great haul!!!

    1. Ha! Will use the “pink makes me happy” line on the BF when he voices his opinion about having too much feminine stuff in the flat.

We are moving in together in August and he’s already concerned about the amount of books, hehe 😀

      1. ‘Pink makes me happy’ is my favourite line whilst unpacking a pink bag full of pink stuff surrounded by muscly males at climbing crags. 😉 That plus it makes me visible on a rock, which is always important whilst being photographed…. #priorities 😉

Congratulations to the moving in! 🙂 To be fair your collection could have been much worse… you could have been into collecting exotic animals (my college flatmate was into collecting tarantulas…) He’s lucky you are into books… Just saying… 😉 🙂

    1. Girlhood was cool! Gonna have to do a review soon before i forget about it. (Cue, more pink) 😀
There was a time when i had a lot of pink stuff, like bed cover, decorations, but nowadays i go more toward neutrals. It's nice to have splashes of colour tho even if it's just books 😀

  2. You know, I just might have a month were I buy only pink covered books for a change. I might be surprised at what I get to read. But even if I don’t, I have a great selection of new titles courtesy of your good self. And I’m eyeing Finch, one because it’s been a while since I read and spec fiction, and two because I have a thing about finches (birds). No, don’t ask! And Burn for Burn? We all love a bit of well-written revenge.

    1. That Finch one confused me! In the title on amazon it said it’s a standalone, but on goodreads it says part of a series. But whatever it is, it’s pretty, so i don’t complain 😀

Have you read the Goldfinch yet? If we are sticking to this theme?

      1. Tartt’s Goldfinch is on my list … but the list just get’s longer rather than my actually getting around to buying and or reading them all. Oh, and if Finch is part of a series, I’ll have to check see if anything comes before it. I hate reading book 3 before book 1 if you know what I mean. Drives me nuts. Especially as I do it way too often. Or a publisher sends me book 3 and it doesn’t make sense.

  3. Love the aesthetic 🙂 I’m becoming such a nut for UK editions of a lot of books that book depository is like my new best friend! Definitely going to check out Finch never heard of that before and I generally love his writing.

    1. Hehehe 😀
No, it was not specifically planned! I actually got quite a few other random books, but just noticed at the end of the month that so many of them are pink. I usually don’t see this colour that often in my fave genres like thriller and crime.

  4. not a fan of pink. I’ll read Final Girls at one point.
for Guilt- I wouldn’t recommend. A lost 3 hours on that book. Truly disliked. But I agree the cover looks raspberry slashed on mango! hell yeah 🙂
