Reading Prompt: A book with song lyrics in the title #28

I love how random some of these prompts are. Choosing books for this one was a ton of fun. I came across quite a few titles that would fit this category, but I wanted my selection to relate to songs I actually like, because I’m fussy like that.

So let’s rock!

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich
This book, named after the famous song by Elvis Presley, is the first in the series featuring Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter. She’s something between Nancy Drew and Dirty Harry, apparently. One of my friends is a huge fan of Janet Evanovich’s books and she’s been telling me for months to give them a try. It might actually going to happen!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote
This short classic is one of those books that are often featured on those ‘shit you need to read before you die’ lists and such. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is also the title of one of my favourite ’90s songs by Deep Blue Something, so maybe this year I will actually read it.

(Don’t You) Forget About Me by Kate Karyus Quinn
One of those books that ended up on this list because I love the song by Simple Minds, and the book cover is pretty. It’s the story of two sisters, Skylar and Piper, who live in Gardnerville, where nobody dies. Ever. Except every fourth year, when the teenagers get infected with deadly urges, whatever that means.

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
I’m kind of on the fence about Joe Hill. Nos4A2 was awesome, but I did not enjoy Horns at all. It just kept dragging on and left me utterly unsatisfied at the end. Heart-Shaped Box sounds promising though, and it’s been a while since I’ve read a good old-fashioned ghost story. The Nirvana song with the same title is also one of my all time favourites.

Pet Sematary by Stephen King
This old-school spooky tale by Stephen King with the returning dead is one of those books I’ve read multiple times. I just can’t get enough of it. Did I mention that Pet Sematary by The Ramones is awesome as well?

P.S. I need to show you guys the Hungarian cover for Pet Sematary because it’s seriously awesome. What do you think? Yea or nay?

    1. Damn, you are right! I actually love that song and been listening to it over the weekend in my retro phase…
I remember your review and that i actually liked it. I can just see myself reading that and not one of my picks, laughing diabolically πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you πŸ™‚
I agree. I checked out quite a few versions of the US and UK covers, but none of them were particularly artsy or pretty or anything.

  1. How funny–I actually mentioned the Janet Evanovich series in one of the other comments on my thrillers-but-not-mysteries entry yesterday πŸ™‚ That series is totally my fluffy guilty pleasure read. They are fun, goofy, and totally formulaic. They’re getting a little tired at 20+ now, but the first 10-15 were enjoyable, fast reads.

    1. More than 20 books in the series, wow!
I was trying to hunt down the kindle version of the first book, but so far no luck. It doesn’t seem to exist in the UK yet…

  2. I need to get around to reading Breakfast at Tiffany’s eventually. I want to watch the movie, but I’m telling myself I have to read he book first.
Don’t You Forget About me is on my TBR list.
For this prompt I’m planning to read Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver because I’ve heard really good things about it and I feel like I should have read it by now.

    1. I haven’t watched the movie either. If i end up reading the book i might give it a go, but i’m not really a movie sort of person… i prefer series πŸ˜€

    1. Not a bad song to be stuck with! πŸ˜€
I often wonder about the different covers, and how it’s decided whether they take the original or make their own. I should prolly research it, hehe πŸ˜€
